PANTONE Color Matching and Forecasting

Pantone Shutter GuyDesigners and graphic artists were lacking a tool that could be used universally to ensure consistent color selection every time, so in 1963, Pantone established the first color matching system, referred to as the Pantone Matching system or simply PMS system. Today, Pantone is the main reference tool for all industries when they work to match colors and forecasted hues. And recently, they announced that, for the first time ever, a forecasted color is inspired by characters straight from the big screen.

The playful yellow of character-branded Minions from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me franchise is now called Pantone “Minion” Yellow. The custom Pantone Minion Yellow color will be included in the next color addition in the Fashion, Home+ Interiors color palette.
