Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Shade vs. Traditional Roman Shade

Pirouette® Window Shadings

Shades are very popular here at Window Products serving Connecticut. And our customers frequently ask about the pros and cons of different types—especially wanting to compare Hunter Douglas Pirouette Shades to traditional Roman shades. If you’d like to learn more, read on, or speak with one of our consultants to see the products in person.

Limitations of Roman Shades

Roman shades have some definite limitations, including that they can cover only square or rectangular windows, they offer only two levels of light control, they don’t repel dust or soil, and they stack thickly when they’re recessed. However, the Hunter Douglas Pirouette shade is quite the opposite. It will multiply your choices for window, light control, installation, and much more!

The Pros of Pirouette

For everything Roman shades aren’t, Pirouette has an answer. For example:

  • Light control. The Pirouette shade is all about diffusing light through the window when you don’t want the blind completely closed or opened. Diffused light is optimal because the light is more uniformly spread out to give a softer and warmer appeal.
  • Window shape. Unlike Roman shades, which are limited to being installed only on square or rectangular windows, Pirouettes can be installed on arches, angles, trapezoids, ovals, circles, bays, bows, sliding glass doors, and French doors.
  • Fabrics. With six fabrics to choose from and 63 colors swatches, you are sure to find the perfect look for the window.
  • Floating vanes. Pirouette vanes are attached to the sheer fabric backing of the window covering. Making a teardrop shape like that of a hobble-style traditional roman shade, the Pirouette vanes protrude out and can be further controlled to flatten or fold.
  • GREENGUARD certification. Pirouettes are certified to repel dust, soil, and stains. Plus, they are GREENGUARD certified. So you know that your product will stay clean and good-looking for a long time to come.

Lift Systems

Hunter Douglas offers a variety of lift systems, from standard manual operations to motorized systems. They all offer pet and child safety, and some offer more. UltraGlide® is a retractable cord system that lets you raise and lower your shades with no ugly, dangling external cords. LiteRise® is a cordless system that lets you gently raise and lower your shades with slight pressure from your hand. PowerView® motorization is a wireless operating system that can be used with a PowerView® Pebble® remote or with your mobile device or tablet, even if you’re not at home.
